Snowden Racing's Group 1 winning father-and-son team, Peter and Paul Snowden

Peter Snowden

Scone born and bred, Peter Snowden started his career as a jockey, before taking out a trainers licence however it wasn’t long before Peter was offered the opportunity to join the powerful Hawkes Stable as Assistant Trainer to John Hawkes. Together the team achieved great success with champions such as Octagonal and Lonhro among many others.

In 2007 Peter was appointed Head Trainer for the Ingham Bloodstock empire until they sold a majority of their racing and breeding interests to HRH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. With the many changes that followed, Peter was offered the role as Head Trainer in Australia for one of the world’s most powerful racing and breeding operations; Darley.

During his time at the helm Peter secured 29 Group 1’s and 214 stakes race victories including an historic 2011 clean-sweep of all five juvenile Group 1 races: Sepoy (Blue Diamond, Golden Slipper), Helmet (ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes, Champagne Stakes) and Benfica (T.J. Smith) and won the 2009-10 Sydney Trainers’ Premiership.

On 14 February 2013 a filly named Sail became the 1,000th winner Peter trained for Darley while top class racehorses including Sepoy, Denman, and Helmet progressed to stud duties.

Over a six year span Peter established himself as the leading trainer of two and three year olds in Australia; winning the Golden Slipper, Blue Diamond twice, Caulfield Guineas twice, Sires Produce twice, Champagne Stakes three times, Spring Champion Stakes three times, The Golden Rose three times, plus a host of other Group 1 races featuring many stars of the turf including champions Earthquake, Guelph and Forensics.

Group 1 winners trained since operating under Snowden Racing: Shooting to Win, Pride of Dubai, Miracles of Life, Hot Snitzel, Capitalist, Russian Revolution and Invader.

"With eight Group 1 wins under Snowden Racing, we've got off to a flying start in what is still considered a young business. We wouldn't be able to do it without the support of a terrific group of loyal owners who continue to send us top quality bloodstock to train year in, year out. It's a real team effort."

Paul Snowden

A highly-respected horseman in his own right, Paul Snowden started his career as a trackwork rider and stablehand in 1990 for Crown Lodge, before advancing to the position of foreman with Hall Of Fame trainer John Hawkes.

Once Peter Snowden was appointed Head Trainer for Darley Australia in 2008, Paul joined him as Assistant Trainer and managed the Melbourne operation at Flemington.

During this time Paul prepared over 80 winners for his father each year, his career highlight guiding champion two-year-old Sepoy to numerous Group 1 victories starting with the million dollar Blue Diamond and ending with the Group 1 Manikato-Coolmore Stakes double as a three-year-old.

Other notable horses under Paul’s care include Denman, Earthquake and Caulfield Guineas winners Helmet and Long John. Group 1 winners trained since operating under Snowden Racing: Shooting to Win, Pride of Dubai, Miracles of Life, Hot Snitzel, Capitalist, Russian Revolution and Invader.

"I'm lucky enough to have learnt from the best from a young age and to be working side by side one of the greatest horsemen of our time is a dream."
