Barood Too Good

Dec 07, 2015

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Kalifa Al Maktoum continues to enjoy a sweet run of success with another exciting prospect racing in the famous yellow and blue colours; Barood.

The full brother to dual hemisphere Group 1 winner Starspangledbanner, dismissed rivals in the Tab More Than Just Winning Handicap (1200m) at Canterbury on December 2 at just his second start career.

After settling towards the rear of the field with cover on what was a blustery day, Blake Shinn cajoled the superbly bred chestnut colt to bustle clear upon straightening in the home straight before unleashing an impressive turn of foot at the 200, beating home Kopi Luwak and Maya Maya.

"Blake said he was the best horse in the race and that he’d try to ride him that way but coming to the corner, I didn't think he'd be that far back.

“Fortunately Blake was able to get him into clear galloping room in time and the colt gave us some insight as to what he’s capable of,” explained Peter Snowden.

“We’ll continue to work him through his classes but next preparation is the one where we’ll want to step him up the ladder and see what he can do."

By Choisir out of Gold Athem, Barood came through the 2014 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and is a full brother to Starspangledbanner who won four Group 1 races in Australia and England before taking to a successful career at stud despite encountering fertility issues.
