Pepperberry stormed home for an impressive victory in the TAB.COM.AU Metro & Prov Maiden Plate (1200m) at Gosford on October 13.
Beautifully rated by Blake Shinn, the Cressfield bred-and-raced four-year-old by Redoute’s Choice out of Singspiel mare Park Esteem, sat comfortably off the pace away from the fence until the pair tracked in to the race on the home turn and surged late to nail Moonlight Waltz by a half-length.
A slow maturing type, Pepperberry has always raced consistently having finished a length second to smart Group 3 Angst Stakes winner Dixie Blossoms on debut on December 30, 2015 before registering two more seconds and a third from five career starts.
“Pepperberry ran a few unlucky seconds last time in, so it’s great to finally get her on to a winning note first-up this preparation,” said co-trainer Peter Snowden.
“She had a couple of good trials leading into this race and had done plenty of work so I wasn’t surprised at all to see her win today. It was a lovely ride.
“She is a nice mare who’ll be better in the Autumn, but for now, Cressfield’s patience has paid off and we’ll focus on building a platform and progress through to Saturday class.”
