Level Eight Fights Off Fave

Apr 22, 2017

Gutsy gelding Level Eight got the better of race-favourite Mr Tickets in the $30,000 Hotel Denman CG&E Class 1 Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle on April 20 to record a second career win.

With Blake Shinn aboard, the son of High Chaparral settled beautifully off a solid pace in fourth position and headed the leaders in the home straight with Mr Tickets charging late, however the four-year-old kicked again for a strong quarter of a length victory.

“He was there to be beaten but the favourite couldn’t get past him. Our guy did not want to be beaten today, it was a gutsy performance and a great ride by Blake,” said con-trainer Paul Snowden.
