Team Snowden scored a winning double with promising pair Faeger and Marishka at Canterbury on August 30.
A full sister to 2013 Golden Slipper winner Overreach, Marishka settled third in behind the lead under the guidance of Blake Shinn, before gradually wearing down Shudabeen late for a half-length victory in the Tab.com.au $40,000 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap (1100m).
The daughter of Exceed And Excel out of Bahia looks to have a bright future ahead following her debut victory.
“It was a very pleasing effort,” said co-trainer Paul Snowden. “She didn’t begin all that well but she had a lovely run in transit.
“She will gain a lot out of today. There is a fair bit of upside to her. It’s all a learning curve for her today and she got the job done. We are not going to rush her and we have been patient so far.”
Winning rider Blake Shinn believes Marishka will end up competing in some nice races.
“She did a great job,” he said. “I thought we may have ended up in front but she didn’t ping the gates. It was a blessing and she had a horse to follow. She knuckled down really well (late) and she showed her class in the end.”
Earlier in the day, three-year-old colt Faeger carried the familiar green and gold colours of James Harron Bloodstock to victory in the $40,000 3YO G&G Maiden (1100m). The chestnut son ofChoisir out of Fairchild stalked the early leader throughout before edging clear late for a narrow win over Hong Qigong.
