Almighty Front Running Win

Nov 24, 2017

Almighty put in a top performance for an all-the-way win in the $35,000 United Petroleum BenchMark 64 Handicap (1600m) at Ladbrokes Park on November 23.

Carrying the colours of James Harron Bloodstock, the Exceed And Excel colt dropped sharply in grade from the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington where had little luck in running.

Rated to perfection by Mark Zahra, the three-year-old came over quickly from the outside barrier and simply controlled the pace from there to hold off the fast finishing favourite, Last Week, by a head.

Zahra was pleased with the win and felt the drop in class was a real confidence booster.

“Peter said to go forward on him and try and control the race. He jumped well and we were able to do that.

“He’s a horse that’s been racing in better grade all his life so it was good for him to drop back in class, get the win and his confidence up.”

Almighty has scored two career wins, a second and two thirds from just seven starts for over $60,000 in prizemoney.
