A small field and slow tempo may not have suited, but Delfuego proved too classy in defeating three rivals in the $30,000 Class 2 Handicap (1600m) at Gosford on Thursday to kickstart the Easter weekend in winning form.

A son of Encosta De Lago, Delfuego has shown glimpses of talent both at home and on the track, and took his second career victory in convincing fashion under a shrewd ride from Tye Angland, who went back-to-back on the opening races on the card.

One who will benefit from going up in trip, Angland got to work early on Delfuego to mitigate the slow tempo, with the three-year-old too good for his opposition, winning by a length and a half from Celebris.
