Californiafirebird remains unbeaten over the mile after taking out the $30,000 Class 1 Handicap at Gosford on July 19, providing the stable with a the first of a winning double. thanks to Invincible Lad in the following contest.

The three-year-old son of Fastnet Rock jumped well and settled midfield for Sydney Premiership winning jockey Brenton Avdulla as tearaway leader Spencer set a solid pace.

Rounding the home turn into the straight, Californiafirdbird cruised up to the leader and surpassed with ease, to give owner Mr Howard Liang a second career victory with the gelding from just eight starts for over $52,000.

“He’s nice horse who loves the mile, and having the speed in the race really set it up for him.

‘We’ll keep rising him through the grades, and in true Fastnet form, he’ll only get better the more he matures,” said co-trainer Paul Snowden.
