Redzel has extended his 2017-2018 NSW Sprinter of the Year Award honours to take out the Australian Champion Sprinter of the Year at the prestigious national event held at Forum Melbourne.

Purchased and raced by Triple Crown Racing Syndications, Redzel went unbeaten in his first four runs of the 2017-2018 season, following maiden success in May, by winning the Group 3 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick, before he broke the course record in Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) two weeks later.

The speedster then achieved glory in the $10 million TAB The Everest, before snaring the Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) at Flemington across Melbourne Cup Carnival week.

The son of Snitzel also became one of the top 10 prizemoney earners in Australian Racing history, with earnings now standing past the $8 million mark.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden said he was very proud of the star sprinter’s achievements.

“He’s a fighter, ever since he was born and lost his mother at a young age. He is such a popular horse on track and around the stables, there will be a lot of people who will take great enjoyment out it this award tonight.

“Redzel thoroughly deserves it and so do the connections of Triple Crown,” added Snowden.

The main categories were voted on by 50 of the nation’s racing media and handicappers, with the winner receiving the highest number of votes, awarded on a 3-2-1 basis. The awards take into account performances on Australian racetracks, as well as international performances by Australian-trained horses, for the period from 1 August 2017 to 31 July 2018.
