CRU STAYS ALL DAY

Nov 22, 2018

Californiagrandcru displayed his dominant staying ability when he took out the $40,000 Clanbrooke Racing BenchMark 64 Handicap (2400m) at Ladbrokes Park (Sandown) on November 21.

Carrying the yellow and red colours of Mr Howard Liang, the striking Sebring gelding settled beautifully towards the back of the field, two to three horses off the fence with cover under Regan Bayliss.

Rounding the home turn Bayliss had a lap full of horse, before the four-year-old fully extended to the line, easily accounting for rivals, and beating Prince Alby by a length.

Andrew Angelone, Flemington Stable Manager, was thrilled with the ease of victory.

“He should have won at Sale the other day, but today he had the perfect run in the race and it just worked out for us. It was good to see him win.

“He needs everything to go right, you can’t have him up on the speed he has to get back and run on - and needs the entire straight to do it and today he got the whole straight,” explained Angelone.

“Regan has ridden him two times so I didn’t have to give him much instruction because he knows what he’s like and he rode him perfectly.”

“We’ll see if there are any other races over 2400 or further now because he can go all day.”
