Weekend Runners' Preview

Feb 15, 2019

Race 1 - Jonah -

A $300,000 purchase from Newgate Farm at last year's Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Jonah steps out for his 3rd lifetime appearance having placed in town on his first two outings. Has drawn well (4 of 12) and Joshua Parr takes the reins for his first up run. Interestingly he is a full brother to the mutiple stakeswinning mare, FLIPPANT who Peter & Paul also trained. Not to mention he is also a half brother to multiple stakeswinner, I AM EXCITED. He has a stallion's pedigree and we are hoping he puts his best foot forward over the 1100m at Randwick.

Race 5 - Dothraki

Good old 8yo Dotty has run very consistently this preparation and was enormous when doing it tough in the Gr.2 Expressway Stakes two weeks ago at Rosehill. Forced to lead from the good gate, he was gallant in defeat when running 3rd to Alizee. He heads back to his home track for the Gr.3 Southern Cross Stakes over 1200m this Saturday and has drawn well again (3 of 10). Joshua Parr is back in the saddle and race fitness will be on his side.

Race 9 - Smartedge

Coming off the back of a nice performance to run 2nd over the 1500m at Rosehill two weeks ago, Smartedge steps up to the 1600m at Randwick this Saturday. The 4yo son of Smart Missile will have Sam Clipperton to guide him from the awkward barrier (13 of 15) but Peter and Paul have been happy with his work leading into the closing feature at Randwick.

Race 4 - Talented

'Talented', a 2yo filly owned by Yulong Investements is 1 from 1 to date and bids to keep her 100% record intact as she takes on a field of 15 other bright 2yo's in the Listed Talindert Stakes at Flemington this Saturday. Damian Lane is booked to ride.

Race 6 - George Patton (USA)

Group placed french galloper, George Patton steps out over the Flemington mile this Saturday and Luke Currie is back in the saddle after a promising leading display at Caulfield last start. 'George' has taken a lot of benefit from the run and now looks fit enough to tackle the strong mile. Drawn 14 of 16, the 6yo son of War Front looks to claim his first win on Australian soil but one thing to note is that this is only his 2nd race preparation down under. We are hoping he can bounce back to his strong French form where he interestingly ran 4th in the Gr.1 French Guineas.

Race 4 - Estroverto

A 3YO Pierro colt raced by the Kolivos' family who has yet to break his maiden but this 1880m feature looks like the perfect race. Unlucky at this track last start where he ran 3rd to Alier who went on to win impressively at Canterbury Park last Friday. Travis Wolfgram takes the ride and he looks like the one to beat.

Race 1 - Cheer Leader

A $300,000 purchase by Yulong Investments, Cheer Leader is a half sister to One Thousand Guineas winner, Amicus. This filly makes her debut following a nice trial at Geelong two weeks ago. Jake Noonan will sit on her for the first time and hopefully they can team up for a winning debut.
