Dothraki Closes out Successful Queensland Carnival for Team Snowden

Jun 24, 2015

Dothraki lived up to his recent good track work performances to score a fighting win in the Group 3 $175,000 Tattersall’s 150th Anniversary Stakes (1200m) at the Gold Coast today.

Trainer Peter Snowden will set his sights on Grafton now and run Dothraki in the Listed $150,000 Ramornie Handicap (1200m) on July 8.

“He will be a perfect Ramornie horse,” Snowden said.

“As long as the handicapper doesn’t get at him too much after today, it is where we had him marked to go next.”

Winning jockey Damian Browne had Dothraki ($3.50 favourite) quickly out of the barriers and travelling smoothly in second position behind Rocket To Glory ($21).

Browne was then left in front a bit earlier than he would have liked and when Target In Sight ($2.60) make his move at the 250m, it looked like he had Dothraki’s measue, but the four year old had something left in the tank.

Dothraki was able to hold onto a neck advantage on the line over Target In Sight with Rocket To Glory a further three and a quarter lengths away in third spot.

“He gets to the front and wants to pull up,” Snowden said.

“He travelled so well in the run it was just a matter of letting him go. He dashed a length in front of them.

“I told Damian just be careful he doesn’t switch off quickly and when the second horse came at him he picked up again, he was good late, very strong through the line.”

Snowden and Browne have had plenty of success together in the past and the top Randwick trainer was full of praise for Browne’s winning ride again today.

“He gave a great ride. He gave him every possible chance and the way the track was in the right spot, had him in the right place with the right result,” Snowden said.

Browne and Snowden have had Group 1 success in the past with the pair teaming up to win back to back Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in 2014 and 2015 with Earthquake and Pride Of Dubai.

“He has ridden two Group 1 winners and a lot of little winners for me especially up here,” Snowden said.
