Debut win for My Country

Jan 04, 2016

Smart two-year-old filly My Country broke through for her maiden win at just her first start in the opener at Gosford on December 29.

A sharp start gave the filly a beautiful trail on the rail just behind Walk Right In for Winona Costin who asked her mount to extend once balanced in the home straight for a convincing 1.3 length victory in the Berowra Cricket Club Maiden Plate (1000m), ahead of Zafina and Canny Rocket.

“Even though everything went her way today, it was a very professional win and Winona’s done a great job with this filly,” said Paul Snowden.

“She’ll benefit from the experience and we look forward to progressing her through the grades now.”

A third winner out of Danehill mare Bells Will Ring, My Country also provided Darley’s Poet’s Voice with his first Australian-bred winner.
