A Roaring Double At Randwick

Jan 18, 2016

Fresh off a win in the opener with Snippers Land, Roaring To Win provided Snowden Racing and Winona Costin with a winning double at Randwick in the Pingtan Cup (1400m) on January 16.

Out of a half-sister to Group 1 winner Reigning To Win, the Northern Meteor-gelding settled mid-field off a hot tempo before reeling in the front runners at the 400 metres to score a dominant 2.8 length victory ahead of Lunar Rise.

"He's been crying out for this trip and it was a perfect set of conditions for him today.

“He drew well (barrier 3) and he had 52.5 kilos on his back, so there was a lot to like about his chances,” said Peter Snowden.

"Winona rode him particularly well, she got him into the right spot and stalked the speed; it was a very dominant win.”

“I’m not sure if he’ll get to stakes class level but I think there's a fair bit of upside to him and he'll get better as he gets older.”

Costin, who recorded her 33rd win for the season, said the fast tempo of the race assisted Roaring To Win to a third career victory for the Stuckey and Yan families.

"They went very quick up in front so I just allowed my horse to get balanced and sat a few lengths off the leading trio.

“When he came around the corner on to the home straight he let down very well," explained Costin.
