Sheeza Belter: Sheeza Group 1 Winner

Snowden Racing celebrated their third Group 1 win for the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival when Sheeza Belter beat home the boys in an impressive J.J. Akins win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Saturday's Group 1 win backed up Sheeza Belter's success in the Group 2 BRC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) on 28 May.

'All the hard work culminates into days like today. It's very special,' co-trainer Paul Snowden told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

'Justin Warwick called us out of the blue and said 'this filly has just won the Magic Millions over here and we think she's pretty good - I want you to take her'.

'He's here today, which is great. Full credit to him - we're just the benefactors.'

Sheeza Belter was given a perfectly timed ride by the in-form William Pike, who continued his successful association with the filly.

In the lead up to Saturday's race, Racing and Bloodstock manager Colum McCullagh provided some insight into the filly's resilience.

'She came over [from Perth] and she was in great order. Unfortunately, she couldn't be flown over given it was during COVID,' McCullagh said.

'So she travelled on a truck. It was a very long trip for her. And I think it just showed her mental toughness, which she's shown the whole way through.

'When she came to us in Sydney for the Autumn Carnival she struck a lot of wet tracks, but we kept her ticking over.

'And now that she's back on a dry deck she's performing to her best.'

The BRC Sires / J.J. Akins double was last successfully completed by Sizzling in 2012 with Sheeza Belter, becoming the first filly to complete the feat since Linky Dink in 2009.

The Group 1 winner will now have a well-deserved break before coming back for her Spring campaign.
